Wellbeing Series: Wellbeing as a Practice of Sanctuary

In this session, you will learn more about holistic wellbeing and the interconnectedness of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual care.

Join us to explore the concept of your body as a sanctuary when external forces may not feel as such and reflect on how holistic care can shift from an individual to communal care practice.

Syd Yang is on a mission to engage recovery as a practice of collective liberation for all bodies, transforming the ways we each connect with possibility, liberation, and love. A queer trans/non-binary, mixed race, Taiwanese American healer + writer, Syd weaves together magic, possibility + intention in their work with individuals and small groups.

For almost 20 years, Syd has been supporting healing + body liberation in life-affirming ways, rooting deep into their cultural, ancestral and indigenous practices — holding the interdependence of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual wholeness of every person. As someone who lives with depression and anxiety, and dances with recovery from a decades long relationship with bulimia, the work and medicine they share with the world centers the voices and lived experiences of queer, trans, non-binary folks of color and finds its resonance at the intersection of memory, bodies, sexuality, spirituality and mental health.

SJPLA’s Wellbeing Series is a free workshop every second Thursday of the month at 11 am. The workshops introduce a variety of healing modalities as part of our Racial Equity in Homelessness Initiative. These sessions promote personal rest, renewal, and connection creating space for discussion on how to sustain wellbeing practices.
