Grief, Care, and Collective Power

As a team, we're each sitting with our complex web of emotions in the aftermath of this election. Throughout this season, we find ourselves checking in more frequently, making extra space for each other's feelings, and remembering to breathe together. It's from this place of mutual care and shared struggle that we write to you, our SJPLA community, extending the same compassion and solidarity that we've been practicing with each other.

We know that the work of justice expands far beyond election cycles - it lives in our daily actions, in our relationships, and in our commitment to building a just and loving Los Angeles.

We're writing to you now as we hold space for both our collective care and sustained commitment to justice.

This Moment

As we move through this moment together, we're staying present with our communities by building and strengthening relationships that sustain our movement. These relationships are the center of where we focus our energy and where we can make meaningful change in the continued work to challenge systemic racism and injustice.

Caring for Ourselves and Each Other

We're learning and relearning that caring for ourselves is not separate from the work of justice - it is an act of resistance and essential to sustaining our movement. In this spirit, we're continuing to hold space to process and feel, to connect with community, and to engage in practices that restore us. We're honoring our boundaries and reminding each other that we're not alone in this work.

Moving Forward Together

Our work for justice happens in the spaces we occupy every day. It lives in how we care for each other, challenge oppressive systems wherever we can reach, and build community rooted in love and liberation. This remains constant, regardless of who occupies elected offices.

SJPLA remains committed to supporting our community in building a just and loving Los Angeles. We invite you to join us as we stay connected and work for change within our spheres of influence. Together, we're creating spaces that nourish and sustain us, holding faith that every action for justice, no matter how small, contributes to our collective liberation.

If you're seeking spaces for rest and renewal, we welcome you to join our monthly Wellbeing Series - free, community spaces designed to support those doing the vital work of justice. For those looking to deepen their anti-racist practice, our Anti-Racism for White People course offers community and pathways to meaningful action in your own circles.

In this moment of profound grief and justified anger, we hold each other close and recommit to the long journey toward justice.

Thank you for being part of this community that believes in and works toward a just, loving, and liberated Los Angeles.

In solidarity and care, The SJPLA Team
