LA Public Press

Mariah Castañeda (she/her)

“LA Public Press seeks to build a healthier and more humane Los Angeles.

We help people in LA County stay informed and connected by sharing important information, stories and resources. At the same time, we raise awareness and momentum around big local issues like housing, transportation, public safety, systems of justice, and the environment. We give people the tools and encouragement they need to get involved, by shining a light on how things work, who’s in charge, and which community groups are already making a difference.”

Mariah Castañeda is LA Public Press' Audience Director and Co-Founder. Mariah has split her career between journalism and voter education, and is one of the driving forces between L.A. TACO’s maturation into a news publication. She’s also the reporter and voice of The Sellout podcast, detailing the rise and fall of a federally indicted former LA City Councilmember. The Sellout was Webby nominated. She has been a speaker at Netroots Nation. She has covered environmental issues and local politics, and her work has been featured in L.A. Taco, The New York Times, Voice of OC, and Fusion.
