Being Well: A Community Care Gathering for Frontline Workers

  • The Beehive 1000 East 60th Street Los Angeles, CA, 90001 United States (map)

Being Well is a two-day, invitation-only gathering created specifically for frontline workers in Los Angeles' homeless response sector.

We believe that healing is a form of resistance, care is a foundation, and that workers deserve wholeness—not burnout.

A Space Designed for You

Over these two days, you'll experience:

  • Curated wellness and healing workshops led by practitioners from our community

  • Peer support spaces to share your experiences and wisdom

  • Grounding rituals to support nervous system regulation

  • Rest areas where you can simply be

All in an environment that honors your whole self—your body, your story, your weariness, and your wisdom.

Who Can Attend

This event is by invitation only.

If you are a frontline homeless sector worker in Los Angeles who has participated in our programming before and have not received an invitation, please email Anh Le at ale@sjpla.org

What to Expect

Being Well is rooted in our core values:

  • Collective Care: We center interdependence and nourish the whole person.

  • Liberation in Practice: We reject extractive workplace norms and model alternatives grounded in healing.

  • Lived Experience as Wisdom: We honor the knowledge carried by those closest to the work and harm.

  • Rest as Resistance: We embrace rest as essential to individual and systemic resilience.

This gathering offers:

  • A chance to connect with peers who understand your work

  • Practices you can take back to sustain yourself

  • Space to imagine what workplaces centered in care could look like

Join us

This gathering was co-created with community wisdom and feedback. The facilitators and practices are grounded in the community alongside attendees.

This event is by invitation only.

Accessibility

We look forward to welcoming you to Being Well: Community Care Gathering for Frontline Workers. Social Justice Partners LA is dedicated to providing an accessible experience for all attendees. Below we’ve outlined some of the steps we have taken to ensure accessibility for all, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any additional questions, concerns, or needs.

VENUE DETAILS & CONSIDERATIONS

  • The event will take place indoors and outdoors in the Radian & Main Courtyard of the Sola Beehive.

  • Both of these spaces are on ground level (no stairs required). Both entrances to the Radian are ADA accessible.

  • Assuming no inclement weather, the doors & windows of the Radian will be kept open throughout the day. Additional ventilation and airflow is offered with ceiling fans.

  • HEPA filters & ionizing air scrubbers will be in place to help with purification in the Radian. If high temperatures are expected, an additional A/C unit with purification/filtration will be used.

  • The Radian has two restrooms (one with five stalls & one with two stalls & two urinals). Both restrooms will be gender neutral for the event.

  • Outdoor spaces will be partially covered by shade sails and umbrellas to provide as much shade as possible (please note: precise shade coverage will shift throughout the day).

  • Service animals are welcome, but please leave other pets at home. We will coordinate with the Sola Beehive staff to ensure locations for service animals to relieve themselves and hydrate, as needed.

COVID TESTING & MASKING

We strongly encourage a negative rapid Covid test on arrival each day. To facilitate quick check in, you will be asked if you have tested at registration (no need to show a photo - we will operate on the honor system). We will also have rapid Covid tests available at check in. Please plan to arrive early (by 9am at the latest) if you have not tested at home. We will have plenty of rapid Covid tests on hand so you can test at home again in advance of the second day. Free rapid Covid tests are available for pick up in advance of the event at LA County Library branches (*please call your local branch in advance to confirm availability*) and a range of LA County Department of Health sites.

We do not require proof of vaccination. Masks will be widely available for the duration of the event. Masking is optional but strongly encouraged as a form of mutual care.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR COMMUNITY CARE

  • If you will be accompanied by a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) to assist you during the event, please let us know so that we can make appropriate spatial and catering arrangements.

  • Audio Visual Accommodations: At present, the main sessions and breakout workshops will not have any onscreen or projected elements. Any onscreen elements will be captioned. A limited number of assisted listening devices will be available. Please be sure to let us know in your registration if you would like assisted listening support so that we are certain to have a sufficient number of units onsite.

  • We kindly ask that all attendees refrain from wearing scented products to ensure a comfortable environment for everyone. Please avoid wearing/using perfumes, colognes, scented lotions, hair products, cosmetics, scented soaps and detergents before the event. This helps those that are affected by these products in shared spaces. We will offer a designated “Scent Free” seating area in the Radian, specifically for those with scent sensitivities.

  • Your nourishment is important to us! Our local, mission-aligned food vendors have offerings that can accommodate a range of dietary needs (including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and nut allergies). Please ensure that you’ve outlined your needs in the registration form. If you do not have any dietary restrictions, we request that you kindly leave any speciality items (gluten free/dairy free/nut free) for those who requested them.

  • A designated “Quiet Zone” will be available for anyone who needs to take a break. Please refrain from disturbing others while they are in this zone.

  • For parents who may need a lactation area during the event, please let us know so that we can arrange a completely private location with the Sola Beehive Staff.

If there is anything creating a barrier to your participation (transportation, caregiving responsibilities, accessibility considerations, supervisor approval, etc.), please contact Anh Le at ale@sjpla.org. We will do our very best to provide additional support to facilitate your attendance.
